Some favorite facts about Stanford

Former Stanford University President John Hennessy once wrote “Stanford's pioneering spirit, which can be traced to our founders and to our Western location, encourages boldness in everything we do, from the classroom to the laboratory to the athletic field.” As an example of that boldness, I admit that I have willfully adapted the notes on these pages from the terrific (and official) Stanford History and Stanford Facts sites. But then I'm particularly fond of this institution, its origins and its architecture, and so I like to share as much of its history as I can learn. There's much, much more, if you care to tour the university's many sites and discover something unique for yourself!
